Ranch Work

Tuesday we brought the yearling heifers in, Bangs vaccinated them, sorted off the replacement heifers, and hauled them over to fresh pasture.

This picture was taken from the top of the stock trailer.

Letting them out.

Here is a picture of some steers that was taken a few days ago.

The crocuses are blooming.

Yesterday we brought the cows home from the river. It was a pretty long ride, but it was a nice day. We still haven't seen any rain. Some moisture would be really nice.

Farming

Recently we have been trying to smooth out our hay fields by lightly disking them and dragging a harrow behind. The worst part was the mole hills; it seems to be leveling them out quite well. We have done about 450 acres and are through on this side of the river, but have 160 acres left on the other side of the river.

A couple of pictures.

Here is what happens when you leave the windows down on the pickup.

Beautiful March

It feels more like May though. Today was 73 degrees. I guess by the end of the week it is supposed to cool down into the 50's, but then we have a chance of rain, which would be nice.

About a week ago we moved the steers to another pasture. They seem to be pretty happy.

The geese have returned.

We tried burning a small island on Cottonwood Creek to get rid of the weeds, but it didn't burn very well.

Cattle Pictures.

It cooled down a bit and we got some snow. It is warming up again now though.

Here are a few pictures of some of our cows.

Another Update

Well, it is the 13th of February and it got to 40 degrees today. The forecast shows upper 30s for the next 7 days. There is no snow to speak of. We are really thankful for this weather.

Here are some pictures that were taken a little over a week ago.

These were taken yesterday when I fed the calves with Dad. (We feed with a pickup with a bale-unroller on it) The calves in the pictures are some of our heifer calves.
